Using these images

How you can use the images on CollectionsCaptured depends on the image's copyright status and the way you want to use it.

Copyright status is indicated in the data accompanying individual images.

Private or educational use

All images on CollectionsCaptured can be used for private study or for strictly educational purposes (e.g. in seminar/lecture presentations, student hand-outs, Blackboard, and Recap) without obtaining permission from the Robinson Library Special Collections or the copyright holder, regardless of their copyright status.

Publication/ commercial use

You may reproduce, exhibit or make commercial use of images on CollectionsCaptured with no charges for re-use. We ask that you credit the University Library as indicated on our web pages.

However, if an image is in copyright, as indicated in the data accompanying the individual image, you will need to obtain permission from the copyright holder. It is the responsibility of the individual seeking to publish or make commercial use of an image to obtain permission from the copyright holder. Where Special Collections hold the details of the current copyright holder on file, we will aim to act as an intermediary or provide further advice.

How to obtain permission for publication/ commercial use

To obtain permission to use an image on CollectionsCaptured in publication or for other commercial purposes, please e-mail your request to lib-speccoll@ncl.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can request permission via the request form when purchasing a high resolution copy.

How to obtain a High-Resolution Image

High-resolution copies of the images on CollectionsCaptured can be supplied free of charge in most instances.

To obtain a high-resolution image please complete and submit the image request form by clicking on 'Get a high-resolution copy of this image' in the individual item view. A member of the Special collections team will contact you to confirm, along with any associated costs, depending on method of delivery.
